Christine O’Donnell loses in Delaware. Will the conservative blogo- and Twittersphere apologize to Karl Rove and others who rightly said Christine O’Donnell was a preposterous candidate without a chance of getting elected?Don't hold your breath. "True conservative" types don't apologize. They think we're better off with another liberal Democratic senator instead of a moderate Republican who would support the GOP at least half the time.

Why would anyone apologize for supporting a known conservative versus a known RINO? O'Donnell lost , unfortunately. Rove, and the other ruling class republicans, sure as hell didn't help with their constant denigration and attacks on their OWN candidate.
ReplyDeleteThis is an ongoing war for control of the country. You do not want your "soldiers" to be people you do not trust. Castle would have been another Snowe, Collins, Graham. Traitors in our ranks. Castle could not be trusted.
No. No apology is necessary or warranted. In fact, I would extend some advice to Podhoretz, Rove and other establishment republicans - this is just the start. You "good ole boys" are the past. Your "ruling Class" has been exposed. No more compromise.
"Why would anyone apologize for supporting a known conservative versus a known RINO? "
ReplyDeleteBecause the known conservative was a nut with no chance to win a winnable seat, and because Karl Rove was correct? Look at Nevada. We still have Harry Reid in power because Sharon Angle was the candidate. There are good conservative candidates and bad conservative candidates.
It's just as valuable to send a message to the spineless Republicans about the nature of the psuedo-conservatives they offer up. Pay attention, or we can make you lose. No more blank checks.
ReplyDeleteTea Party does not equal Republican, except when interests align. Get that loud and clear. This is how conservatives start to reclaim some semblance of sanity from the Republicans. Quit trying to out-Democrat the Democrats. Three-body problems are so much more complex and interesting than two-body ones.

ReplyDeleteThat's pointless if it results in Democrats in power. I'm all for having strong conservative candidates. But I want ones that are viable in the states where they are running. It's idiotic to just let Democrats win in order to feel good about maintaining ideological purity. Look at Scott Brown. Are we better off with Brown, a moderate Republican, or would you rather have a liberal Democrat?
Party control is important -- something the ideological purists don't seem to understand. Did you like having Obama and the Democrats ram Obamacare down our throats because they controlled both houses of Congress?
If sending a message means, conform to our idea of conservatism or we'll make you lose and put a liberal Democrat in power instead,, then that's not a message we need. Should we be happy about new leftist Senator Chris Coons?
Castle was not a Scott Brown. Castle was a career RINO of the worst sort, a traitor better off going into retirement.
ReplyDeleteAs I wrote above, this is a long war. O'Donnell went down, but over the course of the primary and campaign a message was sent to the jerks like Rove and other establishment republicans. We lost the battle in Delaware, but I think it was worth the cost.
Now the republicans have to put up or go into the trash heap of political history.
(By the way Rove was one of the creators of the "compassionate conservative" movement that nearly destroyed the party. Anything out of his mouth is garbage.)
Castle was definitely not a great Republican. But he would still be far better as senator than Coons. There's also the overall political situation to consider. Democrats control the white house, and Obama may be re-elected. Even a Castle will sometimes vote with the GOP on key issues. All Republicans, even the liberals, were united in voting against Obamacare. With someone like Coons we have a sure vote for the worst Obama policies, and now, another Democrat to help block any Republican legislation coming out of the House.

If they really got the message that we need to put up good conservative candidates like Marco Rubio, then yes, it may have been worth it. But I'm not convinced they got that message. And the message is severely damaged by conservative candidates losing winnable races.
"Now the republicans have to put up or go into the trash heap of political history."
The GOP isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Just because Rove had some bad ideas doesn't mean he isn't an astute political analyst and operator, or that he wasn't right on target with his criticism of Christine O'Donnell.
Very interesting post over at Ace of Spades regarding not taking the Senate. The poster thinks it works out perfectly for conservatives.
ReplyDelete"Over the next two years, the Democrats control two of the three levers of power, so the job of blaming the Republicans will be only slightly less difficult than those arguments they tried to sell over the past two years to growing jeers from their constituents."
It is worth a look at.
I would try an give you the gist of it, but I would just butcher it.
I any event a great day overall.
I'll check it out, thanks.
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely a great election result overall. It sure beat 2008 by a mile.
My husband and I debated this one ad nauseam. He was in the "even a Democrat is preferable to a RINO and anyway O'Donnell isn't so bad and can maybe win" camp, and I was in the "you've got to be kidding, can you hear yourself?" camp. Of course, I agree with your assessment.
