Atheists in Foxholes
The BBC has a short report called just that. [scroll down the report to the second subhead]. It notes that Dutch forces serving in Afghanistan include 30 self-identified humanists. They even have their own chaplain, who in the absence of any spiritual function, serves as a type of counselor. The report notes that UK troops also have a "tiny number" of soldiers who identify as atheists when asked for their religious affiliation.

not only are there atheists in foxholes, they have their own organization, named "atheists in foxholes".
ReplyDeletei send them postcards every few weeks.
I know there atheists in the military, but people repeat that canard about "no atheists in foxholes" all the time.
ReplyDeleteBut I didn't know about the specific organization you mention.
