Right-wing Idiocy Looks Like Left-wing Idiocy

I spend a fair amount of time bashing the stupidity of the left. For example, I recently reacted to the idiotic leftist attempt to blame George Tiller's murder on Bill O'Reilly and other mainstream pro-lifers. But occasionally something so outrageously stupid also appears on the right. This time it appears in the form of Debbie Schlussel's latest post about the Holocaust Museum shooting. Here's Schlussel,
it is because of Muslims--who are the biggest contributor to the worldwide rise in anti-Semitism to Holocaust-eve levels--that neo-Nazis feel comfortable--far more comfortable!--manifesting their views about Jews. Until 9/11 and our resulting new tolerance for Islam, the neo-Nazi types were marginalized and howling at the wind. We know who has been targeting Jewish museums and centers affiliated with Jews in recent years. And it hasn't been, in general, 89-year-old White guys.
She goes on in this vein, blaming Muslims for creating the atmosphere that caused the shooter to act. It's an almost identical type of theory as stupid left-wing arguments about the Tiller killing. Von Brun, the neo-Nazis shooter, has a long history of being a racist nutcase. Crazed lunatics don't need an "atmosphere," an "environment," a "comfort level" or whatever other nonsense people want to attribute their actions to. Just as the left used the Tiller killing as an opportunity to smear the entire pro-life movement in general, and Bill O'Reilly in particular, for the actions of a deranged lunatic, so Schlussel has taken this opportunity to demonize Muslims at large for the actions of one unhinged maniac.  It was illogical idiocy when the left did it, and it's still the same when it comes from the right.

  1. Are neocons on the "right"? I'm wondering about that or whether they are wolves in sheeps clothing trying to draw people into their agenda. IMHO people associate a person's stance on particular issues as indicating they are conservative/liberal. Most people say, "Well, I agree with X on abortion and gay marriage so he must right on [name the issue]." Methinks that Neocons use this to capture the support of traditionally-minded folks for things like Zionism, world domination, the police state needed to enforce their polcies etc.

  2. The term "neocon" has largely lost most of its meaning from overuse & inappropriate use. But I'm not sure Debbie Schlussel would even qualify as a neocon in any sense. From what I've seen she's just rabidly anti-Muslim.
